You should set yourself some goals such as when you will complete the research required on your dream companies and the steps you will take to achieve your goals. The most significant step in this process is to value all the companies which you are interested in. Do some research as this will help to distinguish and highlight the differences in your dream companies. The research will help to inform your decision to pursue a job at a particular company or to change direction. After completing the research and understanding the information about all the companies you have identified, make a list and write down their features and compare them. In this way, you can have a clearer view of those companies that you feel are best suited to you in terms of values or prospects.

2. “Sell” yourself

After setting your goals, you should think about how to make yourself stand out from the others wanting your dream job. As part of this process, try setting higher goals which is not a way of overrating yourself, but when set may help stimulate you to achieve better results.

Besides your LinkedIn profile and your resume, you should also have a cover letter for you to send to the company. Remember, it is better to design different cover letters for different companies.

3. Prepare thoroughly before you have an interview

There are different kinds of interviews including:

  • phone/video interviews
  • group interviews
  • one-on-one interviews
  • behavioural interviews
  • technical interviews, and
  • mock interviews.

You should not only know some simple interviews formats but you should also learn more about complicated interview formats. Learning about different interview formats will help you to improve your own abilities and make yourself more competitive. If you understand the processes involved you are better able to prepare.
